    Grand Traverse Commons

    Built in 1885, the Grand Traverse Commons was employed as an asylum until 1989. The forested grounds of the Grand Traverse Commons house manor-type buildings and draw visitors who use the area to bird watch, ski and take walks.

    Point Betsie Lighthouse
    One of the last manned lighthouses on Lake Michigan, the Point Betsie Lighthouse was constructed in 1880 and automated in 1983. Known as the second-most photographed lighthouse in the United States, the lighthouse is still in operation and tours are offered seasonally from spring to fall.

    Shay Steam Locomotive
    On display in Cadillac's City Park, the Shay Locomotive is characterized as a two-truck train. The exhibit pays tribute to the area’s history in the logging industry and Ephraim Shay who invented the locomotives in the 1800s.
